The objectives of the I.A.O. are stipulated in article 3 of the organization's Founding Act amongst
which:
- Recording and evaluation of changes taking place in Europe,
- Enhancement of the role of Orthodoxy within the framework of the European Union and the
consolidation of Orthodoxy as an important and necessary political, cultural and spiritual entity
geared towards the shaping of a new European reality,
- Contribution of the ecumenical and unifying character of Orthodoxy towards transgression of
extreme nationalistic and religious oppositions, as well as, the discovery of effective means for the
protection of national and religious minorities,
- Support of the role of Orthodox culture as a unifying force in Eastern Europe and as a bridge for
Europe in its relationships with other cultures,
- Encouragement of contacts between parliamentary, political, ecclesiastical, academic and spiritual
figures or institutions, geared towards the development of an Orthodox cultural heritage and their
contribution to the contemporary global dialogue on human rights and peaceful coexistence of
peoples,
- Promotion of solutions to the critical problems of contemporary European society and the
ecological environment.
